Why Taking A Mental Health Day Is So Important For Working Moms
If you’re a working mom, then you know the struggles of mental health that come along with that. Whether you work from home or with a company, I want to talk about why taking a mental health day is so important for working moms. Motherhood by itself is difficult even on a good day, but when you add the stress of working on top of that it becomes a major stressor. You feel guilty for not spending all your time with your kids, and in the same breath know that this is something you need or have to do.
It is never easy being a working mom, your plate is always full and you are constantly running on empty. My goal in this post is to encourage you and help you feel less alone. It’s so important to take a day for yourself for many reasons, I will discuss a few below.
Reasons why taking a mental health day is so important for working moms.
1. It helps you clear your head.
Motherhood has a way of muddling our minds. We have never-ending to-do lists for our jobs, our homes, and our families. It can be very isolating and overwhelming at the same time. Taking a mental health day gives your brain the healing it needs to quiet the chaos and the noise and give you a chance to re-focus.
2. It revitalizes your body.
There is no denying that motherhood is draining, but as a working mom there is a whole different level of exhaustion. If you’re feeling a bit run down, taking a mental health day just to sleep can revitalize you. Taking a day for rest is not lazy, you are giving your body the rest it needs to function properly and revitalize your bodily processes.
3. It improves your mood and wellbeing.
When you’re under a constant amount of stress, your overall mood and wellbeing suffer. This is one of the big reasons why taking a mental health day is so important for working moms. It’s never good for you or your family if you’re constantly suffering under the weights of motherhood and work.
4. It gives you a renewed sense of purpose.
When the invisible mental load of motherhood is taking its toll on you and you are losing yourself, taking a mental health day will give you a renewed sense of purpose. Being a mom is hard. It’s not selfish to take a day for yourself, because in order for you to continue showing up for your family and your job, you need to take care of yourself too.
5. It helps you remember who you are outside of mother and employee.
Sometimes it is far too easy to lose sight of yourself as a mom and employee. Taking a mental health day is so important for many reasons, but this one is especially important. It can feel like you’re being pulled in too many directions like a slinky that’s stretched too much. When you take a day for yourself, it helps you to remember who you are outside of your roles.
I hope you found this post helpful and encouraging as you navigate life as a working mom. This season is a very hard one, but you are not alone in it. If you or someone you know is struggling with the weight of being a working mom, share this post with them in hopes they will find community and encouragement and feel less alone.
