Whether you are a mom to both or only boys, there’s a few things to to know about being a boy mom. Raising tiny humans is hard enough, but boys are altogether a special breed. So what exactly is a boy mom? Well, I’m glad you asked!
A boy mom is a mama that has at the very least one son and understands the unique challenges and gifts of raising boys. She may also be a mama of daughters, as well. If you’re a mama to boys and girls alike, you are both a boy mom and a girl mom. The term boy mom is often used to connect to and identify with fellow boy moms. This list of things to know about being a boy mom are sure to make your day.
Here Are a Few Things to Know About Being a Boy Mom
1. Your days are always active and entertaining.
When you’re a mom to boys, you are constantly on the move. They get bored very easily because of the sheer amount of energy they have. You just might find that if you can’t channel that energy in an appropriate way, that they thrive on danger and destruction.
2. Your boy will sport scrapes, bruises and blood like a badge of honor.
Boys are fans of what I like to call “rough and tumble” play. The are avid climbers, the run into and fall off of things, the jump off things, the list never ends. You’ll need lots of bandaids and kisses for booboo’s.
3. You are their entire world.
As a mama of boys, you are the light of their whole life. You are their first and truest love. You are who they learn to love from and you show them how to love their future wives and kids. They look up to and treasure you. There’s not much a sweet boy won’t do for his mama.
4. They are super cuddly and snuggly.
This will melt your heart. They are the most affectionate, cuddly, snuggly creatures. It never gets old. It may make you touched out at times, but treasure this, sweet mama. There will come a time when these snuggles will be reserved for their significant other, so treasure these while you still can.
5. They are loud and rambunctious.
If you were expecting them to quietly play independently, think again haha. Boys are very loud. Their is so much going on in their little brains they just have to let you know!
6. They love their toy cars and blocks.
Cars and blocks will be all over the house, on every surface you can think of. Sometimes lined up or stacked, these will be your new decor. You will clean them up or step on them constantly, even if you clean them up repeatedly.
7. They are super silly and funny.
Sometimes you might find your boy with a trashcan or other object on their head. If your day isn’t made with them bringing you treasures or flowers, it’s sure to be made with their sheer amount of silliness. It is never a dull moment in the life of a boy mom.
8. They dislike sleeping.
If you have a boy, you know this is true. Because of how much energy they have and all the learning they love to do, they hate to sleep and have the energy of a thousand suns is what I like to say. There’s too much that they could be doing or learning to sleep, so they don’t like it! I often say that if I had half of the energy little boys do, I’d be a different person.
It is so much fun being a boy mom, albeit exhausting. They are such fun and love to explore! It’s super cool to me watching my own son grow up and witness both the sweet and quirky ways God made him.
Raising boys is hard work, but rewarding.
If you’ve been around long enough, you have probably heard the phrase “boys never grow up, their toys just get bigger”. I have found this to be incredibly true in both my son and my husband! It’s so easy to get bogged down with responsibilities in adulthood that you forget how to play. Don’t go wishing away childhood, and simply just join in on the fun. Enjoy your littles being little. The list of to-do’s will be there tomorrow, but you’re little boy will only be little for so long.
